I ran across this list of things not to buy your girlfriend for Christmas on coolmaterial.com, it applies equally well to Valentine’s Day. The trailer home cookbook, banana bunker and P-mate win the awards for worst ideas ever. The weight watchers digital scale would guarantee that you are freezed out of the bedroom for months to come. There are a few items that might actually be OK depending on the girl, for example a mirrored ceiling might actually work if your girl aspires to be a porn star. I’d like to add a few things of my own to the list:
  1. Anything that might be construed as a diamond ring or promise ring if you are not actually intending to propose.
  2. A Valentine’s Day Card from Someecards, always send a paper card. You are more than allowed to send an e-card to friends and family.
  3. Anything that plugs in
  4. Cookbooks, aprons, pots and pans
  5. Chocolate if she is on a diet

Reservations for dinner, online present ordering, these things take time and planning, wait much longer and all the best restaurants will be booked up. So, over the next week the Charming Dandy will provide a guide to Valentine’s Day. First up, chocolates! These days a box of chocolates need not be a tasteless Valentine cliche, there are several companies specializing in delish high end chocolates which are sure to impress your sweetie. The beauty of chocolates is that they are appropriate at any stage in your relationship, perfect for a spouse or for a third date. Vosges is one of my favorite shops, offering high end chocolates with creative fillings artfully presented. Here are a few of my top Vosges picks for Valentines Day:
